Flights from Belfast to Ibiza

The reputation covers roughly two square miles. The rest is pine forest, hidden coves and a walled Renaissance old town that is a UNESCO site.

Why this route matters from Belfast

Under three hours in the air and ten minutes on the ground at the other end, and you are on a Mediterranean beach. On raw travel time, Ibiza is one of the most efficient trips on the whole Belfast route map.

What you do with that is entirely up to you, and the island is much more flexible about it than the reputation suggests.

Who Ibiza suits

Book it if you want a short flight and a short transfer, you like coves rather than long strips, or you want the option of a genuinely good old town in the evening.

Look elsewhere if you are travelling outside May to October, or you want peak-season value — August here is priced for a different market.

The island the brochures skip

Cross the island north from Ibiza Town and the traffic thins out inside twenty minutes. The interior is red earth, dry stone walls, fig trees and whitewashed farmhouses; the north coast is pine woods dropping into small, clear bays that you reach down a track.

Benirràs, Cala Xarraca, Cala d’Hort looking out at Es Vedrà: none of these are secret, all of them are beautiful, and none of them look anything like the Ibiza that ends up on television. You need a car, and it is the single best day you will have on the island.

Where to stay

  • Families and couples who want none of the noise

    Santa Eulalia

A proper town on the east coast with a marina, a long promenade and the island's best concentration of restaurants. The default answer for anyone who wants Ibiza without the reputation.

  • Atmosphere and the old town

    Ibiza Town

Dalt Vila, the walled upper town, is genuinely spectacular and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Steep, beautiful, and busy at night in a different way from the clubs.

  • Beach clubs and going out

    Playa d'en Bossa

Long, sandy, lively, and adjacent to some of the biggest venues on the island. Book here deliberately, not by accident.

  • Sunsets and value

    San Antonio

Cheaper beds than the east coast, a famous west-facing sunset strip, and a reputation that is slowly softening but has not gone.

  • The quiet north

    Portinatx

Small, low-key and forty-five minutes from the airport, with three sheltered coves. About as far from the cliché as the island gets.

When to go

A hard season. The island is genuinely quiet before May and after October, and a cheap November flight lands somewhere largely shut.

Typical averages, not forecasts. Sea temperature lags air temperature by roughly two months, which is why October often swims better than June.

Mistakes people make

Booking Playa d'en Bossa for a quiet week. It is the longest beach on the island and it runs past several of the largest clubs. The sound carries.

Assuming everywhere is expensive. Club prices are genuinely eye-watering. A menú del día in Santa Eulalia is not, and the north of the island is priced like anywhere else in Spain.

Trying to do the north without a car. Bus routes serve the resorts, not the coves. Cala Xarraca and Benirràs are a hire car or nothing.

Underestimating the season's edges. In early May and late October the weather is fine and half the restaurants are shuttered.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ibiza suitable for families?

Parts of it, very much so. Santa Eulalia, Es Canar and Portinatx are ordinary family resorts. Playa d'en Bossa and San Antonio's west end are not.

When is the season?

Roughly May to October. The big venues open around late May and close at the start of October, and much of the island's hospitality follows that calendar.

Do I need to go clubbing to enjoy it?

No, and most visitors do not. The island has better beaches and a better old town than its reputation gives it credit for.

How long is the transfer?

Ten minutes to Playa d'en Bossa and Ibiza Town, twenty-five to San Antonio or Santa Eulalia, around fifty to Portinatx.
