About this site

One airport, covered properly, by someone who spends their working life looking at how people actually book travel.

Travel analytics, and the person who writes every page here

The short version

I am Oliver Jones. I work in analytics for the travel industry, which means I spend my days looking at anonymised data about how people search for holidays, where they give up, and what they click before they book.

That job taught me something that bothered me enough to build this site: the questions people actually ask are not the questions the industry answers. Search data is full of people trying to find out how long a transfer takes, whether their case will fit, or which week is cheaper. The pages that come back are mostly booking funnels with a paragraph of filler on top.

Why one airport

Because generic travel advice is worthless at the point of decision. “Allow plenty of time for your transfer” helps nobody. “Twenty minutes to Costa Adeje, eighty to Puerto de la Cruz” is a booking decision.

Belfast International Airport is a good airport to do this for. It serves a defined catchment, the route network is large enough to be interesting and small enough to cover properly, and the alternative sites are either national aggregators that mention it in passing or listings pages with no information in them at all.

What I bring to it

Not local colour, but the other half of the picture: I know what the booking funnel looks like from the inside, which pricing patterns are structural rather than accidental, and where the numbers in a holiday quote actually come from.

Where first-hand knowledge matters — which end of a promenade is quiet, which car park fills first — I say where the information came from and when it was checked, rather than writing with false confidence.

The domain has history

belfastflights.co.uk has covered flights from Belfast since 2001. The original site ran for the best part of a decade, then went quiet and eventually lapsed. I rebuilt it from scratch in 2026, and the old pages redirect to their modern equivalents rather than being thrown away.

How pages get written

  • Everything carries a date. Baggage rules and schedules change. A page without a “last checked” date is a page you cannot trust, including mine.
  • Figures link to source. Where an operator or an airport publishes a rule, I link to them rather than restating a number that will go stale.
  • Climate figures are typical averages, labelled as such. They are a planning tool, not a forecast.
  • I write what is wrong with a place too. A guide that likes everything equally is not a guide.
  • The images on this site are illustrations, including the drawn portrait above. They are not photographs of specific hotels, beaches or people. They set the mood of a destination. Never book anything on the strength of a picture, here or anywhere else.

How the site is funded

At the moment it is not. There are no commercial links on this site and nothing here earns anything.

That will change: the intention is to fund it through affiliate commission, which means that if you follow certain links and go on to book, the company you book with may pay a share. You would never pay more for it, and when it happens every page carrying such a link will say so before the link, not after.

Nobody pays for a mention here, and no recommendation is sold.
